What is the pelvic floor, and what does it do?

The pelvic floor is a group that support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus, and rectum. It plays a crucial role in the sphincter control, controlling bowel and bladder function, and providing stability to the pelvic range.

What Conditions can pelvic floor therapy help with?

Pelvic floor therapy can address a range of issues, including urinary/fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, pain with intercourse, constipation, low back pain/hip pain, labor and delivery preparation, and postpartum recovery, just to name a few.

What happen during a pelvic floor therapy session?

Sessions typically involve a thorough assessment of your breathing, posture, and pelvic floor/core muscles, an external and internal pelvic exam. and exercises and techniques to improve strength, flexibility and coordination. Education on proper body mechanics and lifestyle factors may also be provided.

 Is pelvic floor therapy safe during pregnancy?

Yes, pelvic floor therapy is safe and beneficial during pregnancy. It can help with pelvic pain, prepare for childbirth, and facilitate postpartum recovery.

Can I have therapy on my period?

Yes! Your period does not affect your exam or treatment. And if you don't feel comfortable doing an internal exam during menstruation, there are other things in your treatment plan for us to assess and work on during your appointment.

How can I prevent future pelvic floor issues?

Regular pelvic floor exercises, maintaining healthy lifestyle, and addressing any new symptoms promptly can help prevent future pelvic floor issues. Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider are also important. 

​

​Are there exercises I can do at home between sessions?

Yes, your therapist will likely provide you with a home exercise program to reinforce the progress made during sessions. Consistent practice is essential for optimal results.
